We got to see the baby today. Fun as it is to see the baby, if I never have to have another ultrasound again I'll be happy. That full bladder for over an hour is NOT fun! (This is the baby's head looking straight at you. The top of the head is on the left, and you can see the eye sockets and the mouth. We could also see the baby's heart beating - 145bpm)
So everything was looking good during the exam, but the baby was lying face up and the tech couldn't see the baby's spine. So I had to go back out to the waiting room to wait for 5 more minutes, then the four of us got to come back to the room to see the baby. (These are the legs that have been kicking me!)
Fortunately in those 5 minutes the baby had moved enough for the tech to find the spine and take her measurements. (This is a profile shot of the baby's head. You can see the ear and nose and a bit of the spine at the bottom.)
And everything looks good! The baby waved to us and we saw him/her (no, we didn't find out which) suck a thumb and wiggle around. (Profile of the head with an arm and hand waving at us!)
We're half way done! I guess we'd better figure out some names one of these days.

Kaitlyn was super excited to go to her first day of kindergarten. She loved it, especially since Mommy got to come with her. In her class there are lots of similar sounding names. Along with Kaitlyn there is Caitlin and Kailin (with no "t") as well as lots of other names that sound alike. Could be an interesting first few days and weeks for Teacher! Kaitlyn's teacher seemed very nice and I think Kaitlyn will really enjoy being in her class.
Rachael's class was a bit mixed up as all first days are. The whole school (except kindergarten kids) met in the gym, then got sent off by grade (french and english mixed) to various classrooms that are probably not going to be their real classrooms or teachers. Rachael found her best friend, and the were together with an english teacher for today, but by the end of tomorrow things should be sorted out and kids should be in their right classrooms.

Rachael is used to swinging by herself from playing at school,
but Kaitlyn will catch on pretty soon.
It's a little on the noisy side, what with metal rubbing against metal, but it's a small price to pay for hours of entertainment.
Near the lumberjacks, on the Playland side of the fair, there's this Go Active BC exhibit. And all they had to do was say three things they could do to be more healthy (eat fruits/veggies, run and swim is what they said) and then they each got a skipping rope. After that we went in the booth where they had to do five activities, stamp the "passport" they got, and then they got a free gift! Rachael chose a frizbee and Kaitlyn chose a lunch kit. (These were the only choices, since they already had the skipping rope.) Kaitlyn is super excited to take her lunch kit to school. And they've both been outside all morning skipping and playing frizbee.

We saw something at the zoo we've never seen before - eggs! Ostrich eggs, by the looks of them. That and the fact that it was in the ostrich enclosure!
We saw lots of new babies at the zoo today.
We saw Shadow the grizzly bear playing in the water and eating/playing with some corn on the cob.
We took the bus and saw a black bear and an albino black bear.
We watch the lions being fed (it was too hot for the tigers to join them today) and we saw the Birds Of Prey show.
There were lots of neat birds. There were hawks and falcons, and even a bald eagle! This is a great horned owl.
But the best part of the show was Rachael got to be a volunteer! We've seen the show before, so she knew what was going to happen. She got to pull Legless the "rabbit" for the hawk(?) to try and catch.
And of course that's right when my batteries decided to die. Of all the luck!
But, at the end of the show she got to have her picture taken with a great horned owl! Pretty cool!
We were at the zoo from 11:00 until 3:30 and didn't once hear any complaints about being too tired to walk! Pretty good, I thought!
On our last day of holidays we went to ride Go-Carts in Westbank.
The girls had lots of fun "driving". It was nice we had the course to ourselves.
We were going to go play at the beach or the spray park (the Winnie The Pooh spray guy is gone! Must have had some copyright issues?) but it wasn't quite warm enough. It was a bit overcast - still warm, but not enough to get wet.
Kaitlyn was so tired from all the late nights and fun all day, that she didn't want to do much of anything, so after lunch we came home. Of course, once we were in the truck driving, she had all kinds of energy! But it was good to be back home in our own beds!
Kaitlyn also had fun with Tim's sister Meghan.
We stayed in a tiny cabin, but we were only really there for sleeping, so it didn't really matter how small it was. We were there for three nights and had great weather! The cabins even had air conditioning, so we could cool off at night.
We played at the beach a lot. Here Tim, Rachael, Kaitlyn and a new friend are making a splash!
We went for walks to see some waterfalls nearby,
and we roasted marshmallows.
We saw some wildlife - a deer, a huge frog - or maybe a toad? - some of us saw a bear, some fish jumping and some saw a painted turtle. These turtles have red and yellow bellies, though I think the tops of them are green/brown. There were pictures in the restaurant, but we didn't see one up close.
